In a bowl, mix the milk and oil well. add the sifted flour and baking powder.

Gradually add the egg yolks while whisking continuously.

Divide the mixture into two portions: add vanilla to one and cocoa powder to the other.

For the meringue: Beat the egg whites with salt and lemon juice. Gradually add sugar while beating until the mixture is shiny and firm.

Gently fold the meringue into the cake mixture.

Pour both mixtures into a parchment-lined cake pan. Add chocolate chips as garnish if desired. Place the cake pan in a baking tray filled with hot water.
