Steps

    Sort and wash the lentils well.

    Wash the rice thoroughly.

    Place the rice in a pot with boiling water, then add the lentils.

    Boil the lentils until three-quarters cooked, uncovered

    In a skillet, sauté onions in olive oil with a little vegetable oil until golden.

    Add the washed rice to the fried onions and stir briefly.

    Season with salt and cumin, then mix well.

    Once the lentils are nearly cooked, add the rice-onion mixture to the pot.

    Add hot water to just cover the mixture.

    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover for 10-15 minutes.

    After turning off the heat, cover the pot with a towel and lid, and let rest 10-15 minutes.
