Steps

    We place the butter in a cooking pot and heat it over medium heat until melted.

    We add the washed basmati rice and mixed vegetables to the hot butter and stir well.

    We continue stirring the rice with the butter and vegetables until the rice is lightly toasted and coated with a glossy layer of butter.

    We add salt and the hot liquid (broth or water) at a ratio of 1½ cups for every cup of rice, stirring gently.

    We cover the pot tightly with aluminum foil, then place the lid on top to prevent steam from escaping.

    We lower the heat to the lowest setting and let the rice cook until fully tender and all the liquid is absorbed.

    We gently remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
