  • 1Teaspoons (tsp)Vanilla
  • 125CupFlour
  • 60Tablespoons (tbsp)Unsweetened cocoa
  • 0.5Tablespoons (tbsp)Baking powder
  • 0.5Teaspoons (tsp)Baking soda
  • 1PinchSalt
  • 1CupChocolate Chips

Steps

  1. 1

Place the softened butter in a mixing bowl

  2. 2

Add the white sugar and brown sugar to the butter.

  3. 3

Beat the mixture well with an electric mixer until creamy.

  4. 4

Add the egg and vanilla, then beat again until smooth.

  5. 5

Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  6. 6

Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until no flour remains visible.

  7. 7

Add the chocolate chips and mix until evenly distributed.

  8. 8

Shape the dough into balls using an ice cream scoop or a large spoon, then roll by hand (makes about 9 balls, each weighing ~80 g).

  9. 9

Place the dough balls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

  10. 10

Decorate the tops with extra chocolate chips.

  11. 11

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F). Large cookies take about 14 minutes, smaller ones 10–12 minutes.

  12. 12

Leave the cookies to cool completely on the tray before moving.

  13. 13

Transfer to a cooling rack to cool fully.

  14. 14

Store in a tin box or glass container to maintain freshness.

  15. 15

Tips Butter must be softened so it mixes easily with sugar. The egg should be at room temperature to prevent the butter from curdling. You can chill the dough before baking to prevent spreading in the oven. Do not move the cookies immediately after baking; they are very soft and need to cool first.
