    We wash the prickly pears thoroughly under running water to remove any dust.

    We soak the prickly pears in a bowl of water for 15 to 30 minutes to help get rid of most of the spines.

    We hold each prickly pear using tongs and cut off both ends with the knife.

    We use the knife to make a thin vertical slit along the fruit.

    We gently peel back the slit without touching the fruit directly.

    Using the knife, we carefully separate the peel from the inner fruit so it comes out easily.

    If tongs are not available, we can use a fork to hold the fruit and follow the same steps with the knife.

    Once done, we place the peeled prickly pears on a serving plate and serve them cold if desired.
