Steps

Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, powdered sugar, oil, milk, baking powder, salt, and mahlab. Knead until a smooth dough forms.

Prepare the filling: in another bowl, knead the date paste with the cinnamon and two tablespoons of oil until it becomes soft and spreadable.

Roll out the date mixture between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper for easier handling. Do the same with the second half of the dough.

Divide the dough into two equal parts: Grease a baking tray lightly with oil and spread the first half of the dough evenly.

Spread the date filling over the dough.

Cover with the second half of the dough.

Optionally, brush the surface with a little sugar syrup (to help the sesame seeds stick) and sprinkle sesame on top.

Cut the dough into finger shapes or squares as desired.

Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) until golden on the bottom, then lightly brown the top.
