  • 3CupPowdered sugar
  • 0.3Tablespoons (tbsp)Vegetable oil
  • 0.5CupMilk
  • 2Tablespoons (tbsp)Baking powder
  • 1PinchSalt
  • 1Tablespoons (tbsp)Mahleb
  • 400PacketDates paste
  • 1Teaspoons (tsp)Cinnamon
  • 1To TasteSyrup
  • 1PinchSesame

Steps

  1. 1

Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, powdered sugar, oil, milk, baking powder, salt, and mahlab. Knead until a smooth dough forms.

  2. 2

Prepare the filling: in another bowl, knead the date paste with the cinnamon and two tablespoons of oil until it becomes soft and spreadable.

  3. 3

Roll out the date mixture between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper for easier handling. Do the same with the second half of the dough.

  4. 4

Divide the dough into two equal parts: Grease a baking tray lightly with oil and spread the first half of the dough evenly.

  5. 5

Spread the date filling over the dough.

  6. 6

Cover with the second half of the dough.

  7. 7

Optionally, brush the surface with a little sugar syrup (to help the sesame seeds stick) and sprinkle sesame on top.

  8. 8

Cut the dough into finger shapes or squares as desired.

  9. 9

Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) until golden on the bottom, then lightly brown the top.
