Ingredients
- 1Teaspoons (tsp)Dried red pepper
- 0.5Cupwater
- 0.3CupSugar
- 0.25Tablespoons (tbsp)White Vinegar
- 1PinchSalt
- 0.5Teaspoons (tsp)Paprika
- 1ClovesMinced garlic
- 1Tablespoons (tbsp)Corn Starch
Steps
- 1
Prepare the dried red chili—either use pre-ground chili or crush it roughly using a grinder or food processor.
- 2
In a saucepan over medium heat, pour in ½ cup of water.
- 3
Add the ground red chili to the water.
- 4
Add ⅓ cup of sugar.
- 5
Add ¼ cup of white vinegar.
- 6
Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
- 7
Add ½ teaspoon of paprika for a vibrant color.
- 8
Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic.
- 9
Stir all the ingredients over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until the chili aroma appears and the sugar dissolves.
- 10
In a separate small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of water with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and stir well to dissolve completely.
- 11
Once the chili mixture is hot, gradually pour in the starch mixture while stirring continuously for about 1 minute until the sauce thickens.
- 12
Let the sauce cool slightly before using or storing—it will set into a light jelly-like consistency as it cools.
- 13
Do not grind the chili too finely; leaving it a bit coarse adds texture.
