Ingredients

  • 1.5CupSugar
  • 1Cupwater
  • 0.25Psc.lemon
  • 1Teaspoons (tsp)Vanilla
  • 3Kilograms (kg)Knafeh
  • 1Milliliters (mL)Melted butter
  • 1CupAkkawi cheese
  • 1To TasteMozzarella
  • 1Teaspoons (tsp)Orange food coloring
  • 1Tablespoons (tbsp)Pistachio

Steps

    Grind the knafeh using a food processor.

    Add melted butter and optional orange food coloring to the knafeh mixture

  3. 3

    Grease the baking tray with butter and food coloring

  4. 4

    Spread half of the knafeh mixture in the tray.

    Top it with Akkawi cheese and mozzarella cheese.

    Cover with the remaining knafeh mixture.

    Bake in the oven for about 25 minutes, or until golden brown.

    To prepare the syrup: Place one and a half cups of sugar, one cup of water, a quarter of a lemon's juice, and one teaspoon of vanilla in a pot, then heat it until the sugar dissolves

    Remove the knafeh from the oven, soak it with the syrup, and garnish with pistachios.

    Note: The Akkawi cheese should be soaked multiple times to remove its saltiness.
